The HSC at IEEE IGARSS 2024 for a Session on “Geology and Geophysics across the Solar System”

The Hellenic Space Center is organizing a dynamic session at the upcoming IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) in Athens, Greece, from July 7-12, 2024. Our session, titled “Geology and Geophysics across the Solar System” (CCS.43), promises to showcase exciting results and new methods on remote sensing data analysis for solar system studies.

About the Session: Our session welcomes studies focused on the surfaces and subsurfaces of inner and outer solar system bodies such as planets, moons, and asteroids based but not limited on analyses of various remote sensing data. Interdisciplinary and comparative studies of terrestrial volcanic/tectonic systems with a strong remote sensing component are encouraged, as well as studies on terrestrial analogues that help understanding the working mechanisms of outer space bodies and vice versa.

Important Dates:

  • Abstract Submission Deadline: January 5th, 2024
  • Notification of Acceptance: March 15th, 2024
  • Accepted Paper Registration Deadline: May 30th, 2024
  • IGARSS 2024 Conference: July 7th – 12th, 2024

The HSC at LIFE IN SPACE exhibition

On Wednesday, October 18, the President of the HSC, Prof. Ioannis Daglis, participated in the press conference held for the LIFE IN SPACE exhibition, which is organised by the European Space Agency (ESA), the U.S. Space & Rocket Center and its Space Camp, NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and the Italian Space Agency (ASI)

Prof. Daglis underlined that “the ability to cross the limits of the atmosphere has given us a virgin space of technological and economic development. In addition, Space, as an Earth observation platform, enables us to frequently inspect large areas of the Earth, to better understand man-made problems and space threats, such as asteroids, and to effectively protecting our planet“. Additionally, he mentioned that very soon the design of the first national fleet of microsatellites will be completed, “a very important step for the country, which will give us a strategic advantage by owning our space infrastructure“.

The exhibition is hosted at the Goudi Olympic Center, from October 19, 2023, until January 15, 2024, with a ticket purchase required for entrance.
