Framework agreement between the HSC & TotalView for the “Earth Observation Satellite Tasking Service”

A framework agreement was signed on Thursday, August 10th, at the premises of the Hellenic Space Center, between the HSC and TotalView company, which is the contractor of the Project on “Earth Observation Satellite Tasking Service”, implemented by the HSC, following a relevant decision of the Ministry of Digital Governance, which supervises HSC, with a funding of 2.108.000 euros from the Recovery and Resilience Fund. With this project, the HSC acquires the possibility of scheduling satellite imaging for the inspection of selected areas of the Greek territory, with direct access to a large number of satellites and high-resolution observation instruments.

Through this project, several needs will be met, regarding:

  • Mapping of the Greek territory through satellite images for the needs of the Greek State.
  • Prevention, response and restoration of natural or human-made disasters and extreme weather phenomena.
  • Monitoring of encroachments and unauthorized construction.
  • Monitoring of areas, particularly protected areas, to identify long-term natural or anthropogenic changes.

As stated by the President of the HSC, Prof. Ioannis Daglis, “this is a very important project, which will effectively meet the needs of our country in satellite coverage. The project is implemented following a methodical analysis of the needs of the Greek State and is the basis for providing a series of reliable solutions to the state apparatus, with the ultimate goal of fully covering the national needs in satellite Earth observation. The HSC role is to identify these solutions, coordinate their implementation and ensure their interoperability. We are satisfied and happy with this important first step to this direction“.
