20 years: Greece in the European Space Agency (ESA)

The Hellenic Space Center (HSC), with the support of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence and the European Space Agency (ESA), is organizing the exhibition “20 Years: Greece in the European Space Agency (ESA).”
The exhibition opens on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 12:00 and is hosted in the multi-purpose hall of the “Syntagma” Metro station, where it will run until March 25. It will be open to the public daily from 09:30 to 20:30. Among other things, the exhibition presents:
- Greece’s path toward full participation in the European Space Agency,
- the implementation of the “National Microsatellite Program,” funded by the Recovery Fund, through which 7 Greek satellites are already in orbit,
- Greek participation in major European space missions,
- the contribution of Greek industry and research institutions to the European space ecosystem,
- new infrastructure and national programs currently being developed in the country,
- applications of space technologies in citizens’ everyday life.
The exhibition includes a variety of space technology exhibits, such as full-scale satellite models, instruments built for space missions, as well as an interactive corner for younger visitors.
The aim of the exhibition is to present to the general public Greece’s journey within the European space program, as well as the country’s contribution to the development of space technologies, missions, and applications that affect everyday life.
Greece actively participates in the European Space Agency, contributing to major European missions that cover a wide range of activities: from Earth observation and climate monitoring to the exploration of the Solar System and the study of the Universe. Recently, by decision of the Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, Greece’s contribution to ESA research and development programs was doubled, exceeding €66 million per three-year period.
Through its participation in ESA, Greece strengthens scientific research, innovation, and industrial development, while also utilizing satellite data and space technologies in critical sectors such as environmental protection, civil protection, transport, telecommunications, and energy.
The Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence is implementing the National Space Strategy, promoting the development of the country’s space activities through the General Secretariat of Telecommunications and Post and the Hellenic Space Center.
This strategy includes, among other things, the development of national space infrastructure, the implementation of the “National Microsatellite Program,” the use of satellite data, and the integration of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data analysis. Through these actions, the economy is strengthened, innovation is promoted, and public services are upgraded by leveraging the capabilities of modern space applications.
At the same time, within the framework of the exhibition, a series of open presentations and talks will be held by scientists, researchers, and industry representatives, aiming to inform the public about current developments and prospects in the space sector.
The exhibition is open to the public and is addressed to visitors of all ages, including students and anyone interested in discovering Greece’s present and future in space.
