Dr Christina Karakizi is as Rural, Surveying and Geoinformatics Engineer specializing in Earth Observation and Remote Sensing. She obtained her doctoral degree in Satellite Remote Sensing and Land Cover Mapping from the National Technical University of Athens.
She has developed an extensive expertise and respective scientific publications in Remote Sensing and Earth Observation applications, with a focus on land use/land cover mapping, precision agriculture, land degradation and land degradation neutrality (LDN), monitoring the effects of climate change on earth surface, vegetation phenology, as well as resilient agriculture and sustainable development. She has participated in several research, educational and industrial projects, including several projects funded by the European Union (Horizon, Copernicus, ESA, EEA, Erasmus-Edu etc.).
She has worked for academic and research institutes in Greece, the United Kingdom, Germany and South Africa, while she is currently collaborating with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), as an invited independent scientist.
