2nd Cycle 2026 Harmonisation and the Space Entities consultations on draft Technology Harmonisation Dossiers (THDs)

April 16, 2026

The ESA 2026 2nd Cycle Harmonisation process (March–May 2026 consultation) focuses on aligning European space technology R&D, targeting Ground Station Tech, On-Board Computers, Avionics, and Additive Manufacturing. Space entities (industry, academia, research) engage through consultations, SME4Space info sessions, and hybrid meetings to define strategic roadmaps.

Key Aspects of 2026 Harmonisation & Space Entities

  • Cycle 2 Focus (2026): Key topics include Ground Station Technology, On-Board Computers/Data Handling, Avionics Embedded Systems, and Advanced Manufacturing.
  • Process & Dates: Space Entities Consultation runs March–May 2026, with a dedicated Harmonisation Meeting in May 2026 and final document publication in December 2026.
  • Entity Participation: Open to all European and Canadian Space Entities—industry, R&D organisations, and academia—to comment, integrate, and update Technical Harmonisation Dossiers (THDs).
  • SME Engagement: SME4Space plays a crucial role in providing info sessions for smaller enterprises to participate in the 2026 consultations.
  • 2026 Context: The harmonisation aligns with the European Space Conference goals, addressing the new EU Space Act and the need for resilient, independent, and sustainable European space technologies.
