BLS/AED training for the HSC personnel by the Hellenic Red Cross

HSC-HNDGS Memorandum 

On Tuesday, April 23rd, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Hellenic Space Center (HSC) and the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS). The purpose of the Memorandum is to set the framework for cooperation between the two entities in the field of Space, with the aim of serving national needs in which Space has the primary role. Furthermore, the Memorandum aims at maximizing the rewarding participation of our country in European programs and European, allied and international Space organizations. 

The signing ceremony, which was held at the Ministry of National Defence, was attended by the President of the HSC, Prof. I. Daglis, the CEO, Dr N. Sergis, Rear Admiral K. Vlachos, Commander of the 3rd Branch, Brigadier General E. Panou, Director of the Space Directorate, and Captain I. Bolanis, Deputy Director of the Space Directorate.

Visit of the HSC President to Georgia Tech

During his recent visit to Georgia Tech (Georgia Institute of Technology) in Atlanta, USA, the President of the HSC, Prof. Ioannis Daglis, met with the following faculty members: 

  • Glenn Lightsey, Center for Space Technology And Research 
  • Dimitrios Psaltis, School of Physics  
  • Feryal Ozel, School of Physics
  • Panagiotis Tsiotras, Daniel Guggenheim, School of Aerospace Engineering  
  • Morris Cohen, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering 

During the meetings issues of mutual scientific, technological and operational interest were discussed.

HSC Workshop at the Athens Science Festival 

The Hellenic Space Center successfully participated in this year’s Athens Science Festival, organizing a workshop for children, called “Astronaut Academy”. On Wednesday, April 17th, the Outreach and Education Team of the HSC held the workshop twice, covering 2 hours, with the participation of a total of 70 students from High Schools of Athens and their accompanying teachers.  

The organization and execution team consisted of:

The HSC at the Athens Science Festival 

The Hellenic Space Center participates in the year’s Athens Science Festival, which will be hosted in the Technopolis of the City of Athens, between April 16 and 21.  

The Outreach and Education Team of the HSC organizes a workshop for children, called “Astronaut Academy”, which will be held on Wednesday, April 17th, at 11:00-11:45 and 12:00-12:45, in the INNOVATHENS facility.  

Workshop description:  

Children will learn in an interactive way about the peculiarities and difficulties of the daily life of astronauts as they hover above Earth in a spacecraft. At the same time, they learn about the purpose and operation of the International Space Station, but also become astronauts for a while as they are confronted with a real orienteering challenge. Finally, they take part in a fun quiz, completing their training!
